"He is the hero we need but not the one we deserve..."

In the second movie, Batman rides off on his of Bat-cycle contraption as Commissioner Gordon explains to his son that Batman is the hero that Gotham deserves but not the one they need right now. In this regard, Jesus is the opposite of Batman. More on why I say that at the end of this blog (so you have to keep reading!) But first, I want to give you a review of the last week.

This week is the first time I've officially gone onto UT campus with the Navigators, and I gotta tell you guys, it's everything I dreamed it would be. It is without a doubt where God wants to use me at this time, and there is nowhere I'd rather be in the world than in Austin serving Christ with the Navigators. There have been some bumps in the road, sure - but God has proved that He is capable of infinitely more than I can imagine.

Last Sunday I had dinner with a guy that I had discipled as his Team Leader last summer while at the Summer Training Program with the Navigators in Branson, MO (think "Christian Internship"). He served as Team Leader this summer to two other gentlemen here at UT. His first words to me once in the car were "I am so sorry." He talked about how he didn't realize how much I had done for he and the other two guys on my team until he was asked to be a Team Leader himself. He also said that he hoped I would be the guy to disciple him this semester. Turns out that's exactly what happened - I'll be meeting and co-leading a Bible Study with JR this semester. I can only imagine the great things God has in store!

Last weekend was my first time to meet the Team Leaders (students who serve on the Leadership Team here at U.T.) as a whole; I'd met several of them before but to see them all as a group was really encouraging. The diversity of the Body of Christ astounds me. No two groups of believers (or people for that matter) are the same; they all have different vibes, cultures, feels, attitudes, etc. about them. Being as extroverted as I am, I loved adapting to this new environment.

Sunday, we met several freshmen and gave them a ride to church at the Austin Stone where I met a guy that was a freshman last year at Texas A&M (where I graduated from). I don't know his full story nor did I ask permission to disclose his situation so I'll leave the specifics out of this post, but the fact that he's here at the same time as myself is purely a sign from God for me to meet with Him and to disiple him while he's in Austin for these next few months.

Monday and Tuesday we spent recruiting at the tables we had set up on campus. This brings me back to the opening of this post: Jesus. We so often take Him for granted that it's almost impossible to imagine existence without Him. But watching out students talk to people about the Navigators and about Jesus, I have to ask: do they even know He exists? Do they He died willing for them? Do they know that He exchanged His righteousness for our sinfulness FREELY?

Here, in my opinion, is how Jesus is the opposite of Batman: Jesus is the hero we need but not the one we deserve. Why? Because instead of getting wrath, which we fully deserve, we get grace, which we need. Does the world know this? And if not, who's gonna tell 'em?

Please, please, PLEASE pray this verse for us and for all God's people: "He told them, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few; therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send more workers out into the fields." - Luke 10:2
